The Shivaji Nagar area is the primary entry and exit points for all inter-state traffic. There are a number of bus lay-byes here, where you can wait for your buddies to arrive. If you are early enough, enjoy a plate of "pohe" with piping hot lemongrass tea.
Chakan, located on the junction of the Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Bangalore highways, is one of the biggest industrial hubs in Maharashtra. The roads open up from here, so after a short break, it's time to gun it to the next destination!
Narayangaon is as archaelogically gifted as it gets. There's a huge town market here, where you can pick up a number of trinkets to adorn your bike. Be careful of oncoming traffic, as the state transport bus drivers are sometimes quite rash.
When the roads get twisty, you will know that you have entered Junnar. Oft frequented by bikers and trekkers, the Junnari environs offer plenty of scope for camping and photography. Beware of the monkeys here, because they are known to pester tourists. A number of famous Indian movies have been shot here, by the way.
With over 200 caves dotting the cliffs around Lenyadri, you will be spoilt for choice deciding which one to visit! Oh, and yes, we hope you carry some food and water, as there are no human settlements nearby. The place is rumoured to be haunted, so we'd suggest not halting there for the night unless you have nerves of steel.
